Those Racist Republicans

heartland

I posted an article on my Facebook page a few days ago that resonated strongly with me, but I felt it deserved wider circulation. Well, more people probably see that page than this one, so let’s call it different circulation. Either way, this lady (Maureen Dowd of The New york Times) says it better than I could have. Or, at least equal to what I could have said but without me having to do anything. She uses Joe Wilson’s recent outburst as a springboard to discuss what’s really behind all this anti-Obama fever sweeping fringe groups of middle-aged white people. She drives it home with this line:

But Wilson’s shocking disrespect for the office of the president — no Democrat ever shouted “liar” at W. when he was hawking a fake case for war in Iraq — convinced me: Some people just can’t believe a black man is president and will never accept it.

Read the rest of the article.

Now, this is certainly nothing new. This veiled racism has existed since the beginning of Obama’s campaign and though it quieted a bit once he was elected, it only took a few big policy moves to reignite people’s anger with him, or rather with his race. The people lashing out at Obama now haven’t suddenly come out of the racist closet. And they haven’t started hating Obama either. All of these people, from Joe Wilson to Glenn Beck, have hated Obama (and probably all Democrats and black people) since Day 1. But now it’s starting to get ugly. The scary thing is, for years we thought we were on the verge of a revolution. That the only way to stop what was happening to this country was to revolt against a government that was bordering on fascism. But Obama’s election ended that all. It didn’t make things perfect, but it started us back on the path this country once existed on. Ironically, the supporters of the old regime are now calling for revolution and claiming the reason is that we are drifting towards socialism. Of course, the old administration was actually moving towards fascism with wire-tapping, arresting American citizens, torturing our “enemies” without trial in secret facilities, and illegally waging war for blood and oil vendettas. This administration, however, is trying to rework the face of a collapsing empire in a newer, more socially conscience world, and these out-of-touch, fringe neo-cons are crying “SOCIALISM!” without bothering to open a dictionary and see what the word even means.

The good news is, most of them will be dead soon and we can finally take back this country and bring it into the present. It’s now, ya know.

  1. Way to skate over a serious social and political problem by whining about policy disagreements.

    • RE:Way to skate over a serious social and political problem by whining about policy disagreements.

That’s hysterical!!! ITS ALL ABOUT POLICY DISAGREEMENTS!!!!!

Can’t you see? Open your eyes and think. This whole debate about calling a bonafide falsehood a lie is taking us away from the bigger issues before us. It’s a canard. It’s a red-herring. It’s a non-issue.

Obama got into office on a majority of white votes. The black community could not put him into office alone. They needed the white vote. If anyone of them disagree with him now does that make them racists? No. They have a right to complain and disagree. They voted for him.

If we are going to get caught up in this minutia of whether a white man disagreeing with the policies of black man is tantamount to racism then never again will a black man ever have the right to complain about the policies of a white president. Ever.

What is good for the goose should then be good for the gander.

  2. RE:But Wilson’s shocking disrespect for the office of the president — no Democrat ever shouted “liar” at W. …..

Of course, Democrats didn’t bat an eye when Rep. Pete Stark called President Bush a liar on the House floor… Twice… In the same speech.

The hypocrisy stinks up the room.

  3. Even though my original post counters all of your statements, let me just say this final piece:

Bush and his administration and the majority of these Republican politicians are responsible through their decision and actions with spying on, torturing, and killing millions of people.
Obama and his administration and some of the Democrats have merely proposed a partially government run health care program.

Any further arguments on your part are invalid.

  4. You got me there. Guess that’s what I get for being a big stupid gay retarded baby.

  5. you must be a god
