More or less. During an interview with long-time Nolan cinematographer Wally Pfister, Cinematical stumbled upon this interesting quote:
“…there are the movies out there that he loves and I hate. I’m not a big Michael Bay fan. Chris loves Michael Bay’s movies. And so I’m always like come on, dude! But he sees something in it, and I don’t see it.”
As /Film posits, Nolan probably enjoys the image and spectacle of Bay’s films. This was my thought as well, and the most plausible considering that’s all there is to the movies of Michael Bay. Hey, I’ve seen a few Bay films in my time and as far as grand scale mass destruction go, Bay got some skills. I mean, as pure, primal entertainment, Transformers is a good movie. Let’s hope the appreciation ends at Nolan admiring Bay’s handiwork with dynamite and doesn’t bleed into handling any other aspect of a film.
