Best Coast: When I’m With You

Lotta fuzz punk LA surf revival indie bands out these days. And I love ’em all. Here’s one of my faves, Best Coast, with their first music video. It’s directed by Pete Ohs (he did that rad Wavves vid a while back) and features some Best Coast babe on Ronald McDonald action.

HEALTH: We Are Water

HEALTH are one of my favorite bands out right now and Eric Wareheim has certainly earned his spot as one of my favorite music video directors. Wareheim breaks with tradition on this one, but it’s still just as tasty as the rest. As long as you’ve got a strong stomach.

Babe Rainbow: Shave

Now that’s a band name I can really get behind. And it’s got one spooky cool video packed with a couple of babes (I dunno if they’re the band or just eye candy) exploring the woods, a cave, and perhaps their minds. I get a strong vibe that these ladies might be tripping their balls off. And it doesn’t look like it’s a pleasant journey. The song’s pretty good too, though it’s a little derivative of Fever Ray sans vocals.

Eleven &the Falcons: The Belles Of London

Oy. New Falcons vid, mates. They at it again. This go around, &the Falcons joined up with Dead Serials to produce this video for the tantalizingly tantalizing song “The Belles Of London” of their alpha EP release, Psychic Toothpaste/Ocean Ghost 7″ (avail. 4 FREE from KillerPOP Records). If you love graveyards and geese, you’ll fuckin’ love this ghost punk dirge.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros: Home

Finally, an indie country song that focuses on electronic music rather than rock. According to Sirius XM U, this is the 7th best song of 2009. Well, I just heard of it and Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, the concept group turned ensemble act created by Alex Ebert. Hard to believe this is the same guy that once fronted Ima Robot.

This dude does lots of graphics work for music videos and has directed a bunch too. He’s done a lot of stuff with M.I.A. and brought her visual style, from the albums and her clothes, to life in video form.

The above is from M.I.A.’s 2007 tour for the song “20 Dolla.”

Made the graphics for Maya’s “Boyz” video.

And speaking of her clothes…

This is the ad he made for her clothing line in 2008.

And he made the distortion effects for “Bang” by Rye Rye which features and was directed by M.I.A.

Beck: Bit Variations in B Flat

The song: the 8-bit remix of Beck’s “Girl” from the album Guero.
The video: an animated psychedelic romp through space created by Wyld File.

Click here to see the collective’s description of the video. It’s very in-depth. And if you like the style, check out their other videos including two more for Beck which create a trilogy of videos/songs built around similar themes.
